The inquirer had conflicting evidence

Pte H Lee Thomas A Company 10th Battalion . He saw Thomas Catlow fall wounded on the Sunday of the landing, 25th of April 1915 on land that was not retaken by the Turks so he must have been killed. When he asked Catlow where he was hit he pointed to his shoulder and groin. Lee Thomas appears honest but his story is contradicted by two letters

Captain Herbert said that Catlow had gone too far inland and his body was never recovered. Pte A J Smith of D Company said on the 20/8/15 that Catlow got mixed up with the 12th Battalion after landing and was last seen in a support trench by Sgt White on Tuesday 27th. He was in good spirits and being looked after as if it was his own Battalion. Cpl Gallagher of the A company 10th said he last saw Catlow on the 28th Wednesday. Pte Malone and Cpl Gallagher asked Catlow to come with them but he said he was all right and would not shift.
