His name is on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey


RELATIONSHIP TO WOORAYL SHIRE:
His family lived at Leongatha South, Victoria and the name Beilby is well known still in the community


MILITARY/OTHER HISTORY:
◈ He had attended Ballarat College
◈ 21/1/1915 He became part of C Squadron 8th Light Horse
◈ His family consisted of George Beilby (father), Fanny Jane Beilby (mother), Walter Stock Beilby (brother), Alice Emily Beilby (sister)
◈ 25/2/1915 He embarked Melbourne on the HMAT Star of Victoria
◈ 16/5/1915 He embarked for Gallipoli
◈ 16/7/1915 He had influenza and gastro-enteritis and went to Mudros
◈ 25/7/1915 He returned to Gallipoli
◈ 7/8/1915 He was killed in action at The Nek
◈ 28/9/1922 His Victory Medal was received by George Beilby
◈ George Beilby received all other medals, the plaque and scroll
◈ The community were devastated when the news came through about the men lost in the 8th Light Horse
